Security Enhancements

No investor has ever lost money investing with Calvert Foundation.

Aside from the fact that our borrowers have a 99.8% repayment rate, Calvert Foundation has taken additional steps to ensure that each and every investor receives back all principal, plus interest. Though the Calvert Community Investment (CCI) Note is not FDIC insured, Calvert Foundation ensures the safety of your investment in multiple ways:

  • Rigorous screening and monitoring: Before we provide loans to a nonprofit organization, we screen them thoroughly for financial stability, growth potential and the capacity for creating exceptional social impact. Once an organization joins our portfolio, they are monitored on a regular basis.
  • Portfolio Diversification: We lend to more than 200 leading nonprofit organizations in over 60 countries. Even investors who direct their CCI Note investment toward a specific geographic region or program sector are still protected, since risk is spread over our entire fully diversified portfolio.
  • Investor Protections Layer: Calvert Foundation has a number of large benefactors who hold long-term investments/guarantees subordinate to CCI Notes. These investments/guarantees create a layer of protection that shields our investors from loss. We currently have over $18 million in investor protection, which does not include additional net assets and loan loss reserves.
